The Indoor Football New Year's Gala took place on Saturday, January 8, in the sports hall in Nowogrodziec. The event was organized by the Municipality and City of Nowogrodziec, MLKS Chrobry Nowogrodziec and the Nowogrodziec Gymnasium. The event was carried out by: Dariusz Wojtowicz, Zbigniew Skwarek, Damian Sawczak and Jerzy Wyskwar.
The gala was attended by Zagłębie Lubin footballers, former Zagłębie coach Rafał Ulatowski, KS AZS Wrocław women’s football players and members of the group Sumptuastic.
The stars’ competition was preceded by an indoor football tournament for junior players, in which 100 young footballers took part. The final was played between Śląsk Wrocław and Górnik Wałbrzych. The Mayor of the Municipality and City of Nowogrodziec Cup was won by the Wrocław team, which defeated the Wałbrzych side 3–1. UKP Zielona Góra finished third. Chrobry Nowogrodziec came fifth.
The young footballers received medals, certificates, prizes and trophies from Zagłębie Lubin players, Nowogrodziec mayor Robert Relich, coach Rafał Ulatowski, Gymnasium director Józef Rosa and representatives of Sumptuastic.
A showcase match was then played between Zagłębie Lubin footballers (line-up: Dawid Plizga, Przemysław Kocot, Aleksander Ptak, Łukasz Hanzel, Kamil Wilczek and Father Remigiusz Tobera, Zagłębie’s chaplain) and Sumptuastic. The match ended 5–1; guitarist Wojciech Szajwaj scored the artists’ consolation goal.
After the showcase match, a tournament was held featuring Zagłębie Lubin, KS AZS Wrocław, Top Talent Nowogrodziec, coached by Rafał Ulatowski, and the Bolesławiec County Councillors, three-time Polish indoor football champions for local-government officials. Zagłębie players proved unbeatable. Top Talent Nowogrodziec finished second and KS AZS Wrocław third.
A fundraiser was also held during the gala to support the rehabilitation of a student of the Adam Mickiewicz Gymnasium in Nowogrodziec who had suffered a serious accident. The campaign was initiated by Alicja Krawczyk and Ewa Caban.
The organizers thank everyone who helped make the event possible. Special thanks go to Mayor Robert Relich, the administration of the Gymnasium in Nowogrodziec, Father Remigiusz Tobera and Zbyszek Szewczyk. The gala could not have taken place without the involvement of sponsors. The organizers also thank Rutpol and CustoPol.
