In Głogów, dead fry were initially found on June 10, followed by larger fish measuring 60–80 centimetres. By June 12, 600 kg of fish had been removed from the river. The services are operating at the site. The Environmental Protection Inspectorate is determining the cause of the fish deaths. Samples were also collected by the Laboratory of the Water and Sewage Company in Głogów and the District Sanitary and Epidemiological Station. An ichthyology expert also secured samples for testing. The State Fisheries Guard, together with the services—the Police, the State Fire Service, the Regional Water Management Authority, and representatives of the Municipal Office and District Office in Głogów—is conducting a reconnaissance of the incident site and the remaining course of the Oder.
WIOŚ is continuously investigating the contamination in the field, while employees of the Central Research Laboratory in Wrocław, Legnica Branch, are collecting water samples for physicochemical testing to assess its quality. Disposal is being carried out by a specialised company.
The Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office, with the participation of the Ministry of Climate and Environment (MKiŚ), is also carrying out preventive measures. These include, among other things: ongoing field inspections; daily monitoring by the services of the situation in endangered oxbow lakes, reservoirs and canals connected to the Oder River; ongoing and continuous observation of monitoring data and GIOŚ announcements; testing for the abundance of “golden algae” and toxins; the securing of technical equipment by the voivodeship services; the establishment of a team for the Oder; convening the Voivodeship Crisis Management Team; participation in weekly meetings of the
MKiŚ Crisis Management Team; and ongoing cooperation between water users.
Two meetings of the scientific and research team for the Oder River have also been scheduled for June. Representatives of the Voivode also participate in the weekly meetings of the MKiŚ Crisis Management Team.
Results of tests for the presence of “golden algae”
GIOŚ continuously monitors the algae level in the river, enabling it to determine the current level of risk. Recently, the results of tests for the presence of “golden algae” have improved significantly. The level is falling.
Czernica Reservoir—jetty 17,505,000—Alert Level I (down from 25,480,000).
Oder above Wrocław—Łany—1,751,000—no alert level (down from 13,500,000).
All possible measures are being taken. We are seeking the cause of the fish deaths. We are awaiting the results of the physicochemical tests. We will report the results as soon as they become available.
