First, vaccines are our personal protective shield. Thanks to them, our bodies learn how to fight viruses without the risk of developing serious diseases. It is a bit like strength training, but for our immune system.

Second, the more people get vaccinated, the fewer opportunities viruses have to spread. This is important because it helps limit epidemics and protects our society – especially the most vulnerable people, such as young children, older adults and people with weakened immunity.

And one more thing – vaccinations save time and money. Just think how much you lose when you are ill: days at work, money spent on medicines and the stress associated with doctors' appointments. A vaccine is a small investment that brings great benefits.

So if you are still hesitating, perhaps now is a good time to look through your health record book and check whether everything is up to date. Remember, vaccination is not only protection for you – it is also your contribution to the health of the entire community.

European Immunization Week

Państwowy Powiatowy Inspektor Sanitarny w Bolesławcu encourages the publication of the following material concerning European Immunization Week on the istotne.pl news portal.

European Immunization Week, held from 21–27 April 2024, is another opportunity for the subject of immunization to be heard in all its importance. The slogan
of this year's Immunization Week is “Saving lives through vaccination”.

This year's European Immunization Week is particularly significant as it coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI). It is an opportunity to emphasize the need to achieve high and even vaccination coverage in every community in order to limit the occurrence of infectious diseases now and in the future. Implementing the vaccinations included in the Protective Vaccination Programme (PSO) should be a priority in protecting against particularly dangerous infectious diseases. From a public-health perspective, the recommended vaccinations included in the PSO are just as important as mandatory vaccinations. They are an important investment in health.

European Immunization Week is an initiative:

  • directed and coordinated by the World Health Organization,
  • implemented and supported at the national and local levels by states, as well as by international and nongovernmental organizations and other entities operating in the
    field of health protection.

The aim of Immunization Week in Poland is to emphasize the role of vaccinations – both universal and individual – by:

  • raising awareness of the need for and every child's right to protection against diseases that can be prevented through immunization,
  • paying particular attention to vaccinating patients in high-risk groups.

Let us remember:

  • Vaccinations save lives.
  • Epidemics of infectious diseases continue to pose a serious threat, including to Europeans.
  • Complications from diseases that can be prevented through immunization still threaten lives – especially those of young children.
  • Vaccinations eliminate dangerous diseases from our surroundings.
  • Vaccinations cost less than treating complications from infectious diseases.
  • Mandatory vaccinations are free of charge
