The incident occurred on Saturday evening on provincial road no. 364 between Ubocze and Gradówek. After 9:00 p.m., the duty officer at the Lwówek police station received a report of a collision involving two passenger cars. Police officers from the County Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski immediately went to the scene.
The officers established that an 18-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County, who was driving a Mazda, collided head-on while overtaking with a properly moving Seat driven by a 20-year-old resident of Lwówek County. As a result of the collision, four people were taken to hospital. One of them is in serious condition.
The 18-year-old person responsible for the accident was sober. The young driver did not enjoy his driving licence for long, as after passing the examination he had not yet managed to collect the document.
The resident of Bolesławiec County now faces trial in court. Under the Criminal Code, causing a road accident is punishable by up to three years in prison.
