We reported on the matter on 26 October in the article “Problems registering candidates”. It is now known that, pursuant to a resolution of the Municipal Electoral Commission in Bolesławiec dated 27 October of this year, the Bogusław Nowak Voters’ Electoral Committee was refused registration of its list of candidates for the City Council in electoral district no. 2. The document’s justification states:
On 22 October 2010, the Bogusław Nowak Voters’ Electoral Committee submitted for registration a list of candidates for councillors of the Bolesławiec City Council in electoral district no. 2. Mariusz Grzegorz Lickiewicz was entered on this list under number 5. The Municipal Electoral Commission in Bolesławiec found that the person named above was not listed in the electoral register of the city of Bolesławiec, which […] means that he was not eligible to stand for election […].
Lickiewicz registered for permanent residence in Bolesławiec on 25 October of this year. On the same day, he was entered in the electoral register of the Bolesławiec Urban Municipality. However, according to the Commission, “the defect in the submission, consisting in the fact that on 22 October 2010 (the date on which the list of candidates for councillors was submitted), Mariusz Grzegorz Lickiewicz was not entered in the electoral register in Bolesławiec, while his written statement consenting to stand as a candidate and confirming that he possessed the right to stand for election to the Bolesławiec City Council was untrue insofar as it concerned possession of the right to be elected, was not remedied [podkreślenie MKW w Bolesławcu – przyp. red.]”.
– Our campaign did not have any problems. It was done professionally. If someone cannot register a list, one may doubt whether they can cope with public administration – comments Piotr Roman, president of Bolesławiec.
– This is clearly an oversight by Bogdan Nowak’s campaign staff. It is a sad matter for all the candidates on Nowak’s lists. It reduces their chances of entering the City Council. It also eliminates the possibility of Bogdan Nowak becoming a councillor, as he wanted to run both for councillor and for president – says Dariusz Kwaśniewski, PO candidate for president.
– Voters must be taken seriously. Elections are not just about advertising, facial expressions and playing a role well. The whole matter shows how the city’s residents are treated – comments Grzegorz Kunecki, PSL candidate for president.
– On behalf of the SLD, we sympathise with Bogdan, but the campaign staff have only themselves to blame. We hope this will not discourage him from further activity – says Józef Król, SLD candidate for president of Bolesławiec.
– I will not comment on this. This is not yet a final decision. Please speak to the head of the campaign staff – said Bogusław Nowak, candidate for president.
Nowak’s committee has three days to appeal the resolution of the Municipal Electoral Commission in Bolesławiec. – We will appeal – announces Bernard Łętowski, head of Nowak’s campaign staff.
