Towarzystwo Miłośników Lwowa i Kresów Południowo-Wschodnich in Bolesławiec:
We organized a trip for a group of 56 people, consisting primarily of members of the Society, students from Primary School No. 4, and Bolesławiec scouts.
The organization reports:
It was a beautiful, patriotic, lively history lesson. Our guide took us around Vilnius Old Town and the Rasos Cemetery. Before the ceremonies at Rasos, Ms. Elżbieta Hołyńska-Grzesiak, a member of TMLiKPW, told us about the history associated with Józef Piłsudski, and before we entered Trakai, about the history associated with the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Vytautas, cousin of our king Władysław Jagiełło.
We also visited the Blessed Father Michał Sopoćko Hospice, run by Sister Michaelę Rak. We presented a financial donation for the hospice’s residents to the deputy director of the hospice.
The most emotional part of the program in Vilnius, which provided participants with many moving experiences, was the Independence Relay. Wake-up at 3:00 a.m.; at 5:00 a.m. in Zalavas, Józef Piłsudski’s birthplace, a brief introduction to the ceremony and the start of the Independence Relay race. Our group ran from Paneriai to Nemenčinė. During the final stage of the race, from the Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Antakalnis to Rasos (3 km), six Bolesławiec scouts also joined the Vilnius scouts.
The head of the Bolesławiec branch of TMLiKPW, Barbara Smoleńska, adds:
I thank the Mayor of Bolesławiec, the Bolesławiec County Head, the Bolesławiec Commune Head, and all the residents of Bolesławiec who provided financial support for the young people’s trip to Vilnius.
And she concludes: – I hope that participation in the ceremonies at Rasos will become our Bolesławiec tradition.
