Politico reports that German leaders are under increasing pressure to tackle the growing number of people seeking asylum, many of whom are currently crossing the borders from Poland and the Czech Republic. According to Polittico, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser will announce temporary controls on Germany’s borders with Poland and the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

In the first eight months of 2023, around 204,000 people applied for asylum in Germany. This is 77% more than in the same period last year.

Today, the Deutschlandfunk portal also reported that Germany’s federal interior minister is considering introducing stationary border controls.
