On Friday, September 24, the Janina Ceramic Sculpture Gallery opened on the premises of Zakłady Ceramiczne „Bolesławiec”. The person behind the idea was Karol Stasik, president of ZC „Bolesławiec”. “The company is meant to make money, but if it is possible to combine running a company with supporting culture, it should be done,” explains Stasik. “For several decades, we have co-organized the International Ceramic and Sculpture Open-Air Workshops. The workshop participants leave their works with us. It is well known that artists also create in order to present their works to others. We give them that opportunity.
The gallery was arranged by Janina Bany-Kozłowska, chief designer at Zakłady Ceramiczne „Bolesławiec”. “We wanted a trace of the workshops to remain on the premises of the Zakłady,” says Bany-Kozłowska. “We wanted to combine industrial design with genuine art. Many tours from different countries visit us. They tour the company and learn about ceramic production. Now, additionally—right at the entrance—they will be able to encounter authentic artistry.
As Karol Stasik emphasizes, the company wants to promote ceramic traditions. “Thanks to this gallery, we are opening ourselves up to schoolchildren, residents of our county and tourists,” he notes. “Anyone who wants to visit the Janina Gallery will be able to do so.
Participants in the ceremony also had the opportunity to tour Zakłady Ceramiczne „Bolesławiec”. The tour was led by Krzysztof Grela, director of technical and production affairs.
