On 26–27 July, the Polish Junior Rapid Chess Championships were held in Warsaw. A total of 747 of the best players from across Poland competed in six age groups. The competition was played over nine rounds using the Swiss system, with 30 minutes per player per game. In the boys’ under-10 group, 102 players took part. A pupil of Primary School No. 4 in Bolesławiec also competed in this group Kacper Grela. As the Polish champion in classical chess, the Bolesławiec resident was among the favourites. Despite the fact that rapid chess follows somewhat different rules and Kacper feels much more comfortable in long games, the Bolesławiec player performed excellently. After a very intense and closely fought competition, Kacper won the event and claimed the title of Polish Under-10 Junior Rapid Chess Champion. The good result achieved in Warsaw confirms Kacper’s excellent form. He will need it at the European Junior Championships, which will be held in Batumi, Georgia, at the end of September.
