How can you order a prescription online, and how is it filled?
How do e-prescriptions work and what are they?
E-prescriptions are the standard way of prescribing medication. These electronic prescriptions have successfully replaced the paper form familiar to most people. Their greatest advantage is undoubtedly their legibility, as well as their convenience. Such prescriptions can be filled at any pharmacy, normally within 30 days of issuance. However, their validity period may vary depending on the type of medication. In the case of antibiotics, the filling period is only 7 days, whereas for medications used to treat chronic diseases, a doctor may decide that the prescription is valid for up to one year.
E-prescriptions can be obtained using a dedicated platform. E-prescription websites guarantee quick medication selection and, consequently, prompt order processing without leaving home.
The e-prescription is sent to the patient’s provided phone number in the form of a code. At the selected pharmacy, the provided PIN is given together with the PESEL number to which the medications are assigned. Thanks to the online prescription, the pharmacist has an exact view of what the doctor prescribed. The situation in which the wrong medication is dispensed at the pharmacy will no longer occur. E-prescriptions are a clear and quick solution that makes pharmacists’ work easier. Patients also do not have to worry about difficulties deciphering a prescription or losing it.
NFZ e-prescriptions – how does it work?
An electronic prescription can now be issued by any doctor. The doctor enters the required medications into a special system, thereby assigning them to the patient’s PESEL number. Almost immediately after the appointment, the prescription is sent by text message or email. The prescribed medications are dispensed based on the received code and the individual PESEL number. It is therefore extremely simple, and losing the prescription is simply impossible.
When appointments with a doctor are far in the future, you can use an alternative method: an online prescription. It allows you not only to purchase a prescription for a selected medication, but also to have it filled through the NFZ free of charge.
How Do You Order an Electronic Prescription?
Online prescriptions are an extremely easy way to choose medications. The prescription processing time is short, as the patient can receive a special code authorizing the collection of the medication on the same day.
The first step in ordering an e-prescription is to set up an Internet Patient Account. It authorizes you to use not only prescriptions, but also teleconsultations, referrals, and even sick leave certificates. All these services are available on websites that enable such orders to be processed quickly.
If logging in to the e-prescription service was successful, the next step is to issue a prescription for the appropriate medication. In the relevant field, the patient enters the medication’s name and then any accompanying medical conditions. This is important because some conditions may rule out taking the medication. An online e-prescription also requires the number of medication packages. However, the doctor may sometimes decide this. The same applies if a medical condition affecting the patient contraindicates taking the medication. As a result, the prescription may not be filled. However, there is no need to worry—the funds will be returned to the patient.
After completing the steps listed above, the patient pays for the electronic prescription. The patient provides an email address, phone number, and the password used for logging in. They then proceed to payment. There is also a PLN 0 prescription option, made possible through cooperation with the NFZ. After payment, the patient receives the code by text message, and the prescription is ready to be filled.
