I should actually be triumphing at this moment and shouting from the rooftops: Didn’t I tell you so?! Everyone who read my columns carefully (especially the one before and after the election) remembers that—first of all, from the beginning I did not believe in the remarkable transformation of the PiS leader, the would-be president (don’t many Poles now have reason to cry out: “Thank God he didn’t become one”?!). Secondly, I predicted exactly that the man who just a month ago loudly announced the end of the “Polish-Polish war” (which he himself had once unleashed!), that same man would, immediately after losing the election, start that war all over again. Anyone who does not believe that I predicted this should read an excerpt from my latest column “A Few Reflections After July 4”.
Yes, I should be triumphing at this moment, but—unfortunately—I am far from it. I am rather shocked by what is “emerging” from Jarosław Kaczyński at this moment. I did not expect it to be quite so… I am shocked because I can now see clearly his entire political plan with which he entered the presidential election.
What was it about? The matter is very simple. Jarosław K. decided that he would deceive the “dark masses” (as if this were the first time?), present himself as a gentle, wounded lamb (who wouldn’t feel sorry for a gentle, wounded lamb?), become president thanks to it—and then “come to his senses,” return to his true self and begin pursuing his great goal.
And that goal was supposed to be the systematic attacking of the current government (and as President of the Republic of Poland he would have plenty of instruments with which to do so effectively, as well as an entire army of “hawks” such as Macierewicz, Kurski and Brudziński to help him), systematically undermining and destroying the authority of those in power and, consequently, destroying Donald Tusk and his team. The means used to achieve the goal would not matter. Even at the cost of destabilizing relations with Russia and other countries (we have just heard the “Russian coffin” line; unfortunately, there may be more such statements).
That was the political plan; apparently Jarosław promised it to his brother in the first days after the tragic disaster, and he is now carrying it out despite—or perhaps all the more because of—the lost election.
We are experiencing terrible heat at the moment. Everyone is getting a little “crazy” because of it. Especially those who have to remain in the overheated city, who simply have to work in such sweltering conditions.
I would like to believe that this heat is the cause of Jarosław Kaczyński’s current behavior. But unfortunately, here too (again!) I have no illusions. It is not the heat, nor any “weather madness.” It is pure, clinical hatred…
