“The judgment handed down by the court in Lubin was reported on Thursday to PAP by prosecutor Lidia Tkaczyszyn, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica,” the service rmf24.pl reported. “The court found the defendant guilty of possessing pornographic content involving minors and sentenced him to 1.5 years in prison,” prosecutor L. Tkaczyszyn said.
The judgment is not final.
Let us recall. The priest Grzegorz O. was arrested in Lubin last summer. “On August 18, officers of the District Police Headquarters in Lubin arrested Grzegorz O. The prosecutor charged him with possessing pornographic content involving minors,” tvn24.pl was told by Sebastian Kluczyński of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Legnica. The detained clergyman had been the director of the Salesian primary school in Lubin for two years.
At the time, a statement by press spokesperson Rev. Jerzy Babiak was published on the website of the Salesian inspectorate in Wrocław:
In connection with the arrest in Lubin by law enforcement authorities of Father Grzegorz O., a fellow member of our inspectorate, we express our regret and deep concern. In accordance with the applicable procedures, Father Grzegorz was immediately dismissed from his position as director of our primary school in Lubin, and the school was provided with continued, safe operation under new management. This situation comes as a surprise to us, as no accusations had previously been made against this priest. We are fully cooperating with the police and the prosecutor’s office to ensure that the entire matter is thoroughly clarified.
At the same time, we inform you that only the law firm representing Father Grzegorz is authorized to provide any information or make statements on this matter.
After his arrest, the suspect priest was remanded in custody by the court for two months.
