How does the 8-year-old himself describe the incident?:
Dad fainted, and at first he told me not to call an ambulance. Of course, I stayed by the phone the whole time. Then he told me to call an ambulance because he had to lie down.
And then the paramedics arrived. They performed some basic examinations at home and took him to hospital.
When calling the emergency number, Leon gave the dispatcher all the necessary information about what had happened, what Dad had eaten earlier and what he had been doing. He admits that he was a little nervous. The boy also provided all the necessary information to the ambulance crew that arrived at the scene.
It is worth mentioning that at Primary School No. 3 in Bolesławiec, which Leon attends, first-aid and crisis-response classes are held for pupils in Years 1–3. Paramedics are invited to these classes.
First-aid classes are also held in the older years, during form periods.
And this is how the paramedics from Bolesławiec described Leon’s actions at the end of November:
(...) We were dispatched to a patient in a life-threatening condition. As it turned out at the scene, the Emergency Medical Team had been called by eight-year-old Leon. Leon knew that the following steps had to be taken:
- call the emergency number 999
- provide the dispatcher with the necessary information
- secure the dog
- prepare the medical documentation
- open the door
- remain in telephone contact with the dispatcher until the Emergency Medical Team arrived.
As it turned out, Leon acquired this knowledge at school thanks to training provided by the Wspierajmy Zdrowie Foundation.
