The new three-track service hall, whose general contractor is Alstal Grupa Budowlana, is being built next to the existing Lower Silesian Railways facility. The foundations and the structure of the service building have already been completed. In addition, retaining walls have been built alongside the slopes, while most of the earthworks and service channels have also been completed.

A key railway investment in Lower Silesia

– Lower Silesian Railways has been built from the ground up for 14 years, and it is the first regional carrier in the country established in this way – says Damian Stawikowski, president of Lower Silesian Railways. – From the beginning, we commissioned the servicing of our vehicles externally, and we still do so for more advanced inspections. Thanks to the construction of the new service hall, however, we will now be able to carry out advanced P4-level inspections ourselves. This investment will relieve the company both of ongoing expenses related to servicing vehicles externally and will provide additional jobs.

The investment is being carried out with support from the European Union under the Regional Operational Programme, amounting to more than PLN 50 million, as well as with support from the Marshal’s Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The total value of the work amounts to PLN 65 million.

The local government invests in railways

– We are consistently working to rebuild the railway network in Lower Silesia, increasing the number of destinations served by KD trains and covering more and more kilometres – says Tymoteusz Myrda, member of the Board of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship responsible for infrastructure. – After many years, rail services are returning to Chocianów, and Lower Silesian Railways are returning to the Nadodrzanka line. That is why the company’s development and the construction of the new service hall are crucial for the further expansion of railway connections in Lower Silesia.

The general contractor for the investment is ALSTAL Grupa Budowlana. As part of the contract, a modern building is being constructed as an extension of the existing and operational Lower Silesian Railways service hall. The expanded technical facilities will be divided into three halls containing five through tracks, each 110 metres long.

The building under construction is nearly 14 metres high, and its total floor area will be almost 6,600 square metres. It will contain a wash bay, an underfloor wheel lathe with one through track, and service and office facilities on the first floor, including administrative rooms, sanitary facilities, changing rooms and a server room.

Topping-out ceremony held

– The ceremonial topping-out is a sign that an important stage of construction has been completed. I would like to sincerely thank the investor, Lower Silesian Railways, for placing its trust in us and for the very good cooperation during the implementation of this investment. Its scale is already visible at this stage – the facility will accommodate as many as five approach tracks. The second part of the project lies ahead of us, and we are undertaking it with full determination. I am convinced that thanks to our experience and the high quality of our work, the facility will meet the expectations of all its users – says Jarosław Szczupak, president of Alstal Grupa Budowlana.

The investment site will also include an underground fuel tank with a dispenser, a 140-square-metre storage shelter, the necessary technical infrastructure, green areas and 28 parking spaces. Photovoltaic panels will be installed on the building’s roof. Construction is scheduled for completion in mid-2023.
