Original functional ceramics, inspired by local 19th-century traditions, have been produced at the Cooperative since 1950. Ceramika Artystyczna Spółdzielnia Rękodzieła Artystycznego has developed designs that win awards and recognition in Poland and around the world. At the Cooperative, centuries-old traditions of form are combined with the functional challenges of modernity. The vessels are decorated by hand using the traditional stamping method, with environmentally safe glazes and paints.
Maria Starzyk is one of the most distinguished Bolesławiec artists creating beautiful designs for Bolesławiec ceramics. She is currently one of the two main designers responsible for the patterns at “Ceramika Artystyczna” Spółdzielnia Rękodzieła Artystycznego. She designs decorations and paints limited-edition decorations. She has introduced more than 1,500 designs into production.
Maria Starzyk also created the red-and-white decoration applied to 750 ceramic tiles that form the Polish national flag on a monument in Bolesławiec commemorating the centenary of Poland regaining independence. The artist covered the white tiles with snowdrops and the red ones with poppies. The monument was unveiled in 2018.
