The adopted regulation aims to separate the dates of parliamentary and local government elections. According to the electoral calendar, both elections should be held in autumn 2023. Law and Justice wants the local government elections to be held in spring 2024. Elections to the European Parliament are also scheduled to take place in spring.
231 MPs voted in favor of adopting the bill, 209 voted against it, and 1 person abstained. The Senate will now consider the bill.
As reported by Onet.pl:
Earlier on Wednesday, all opposition parliamentary clubs and groups opposed the bill extending the term of local governments until spring 2024. They proposed shortening the term of local governments or the term of the Sejm in order to avoid the elections overlapping. Only the PiS parliamentary club supports the bill.
