We invite you to explore the world of EU-funded projects! This time, in addition to visiting attractive tourist destinations, we encourage you to take care of your health and the quality of life of our seniors.
Just as in previous years, plenty will be happening during this year's Open Days of European Funds (DOFE), held from 7 to 9 October. Both on site—in beneficiaries' offices—and online. On the website www.dniotwarte.eu, which will be updated regularly until DOFE begins.
Get yourself checked!
EU funds support many health-related initiatives. No one needs convincing of how important prevention is. It is worth getting checked, and you can do so during this year's Open Days.
The Wojewódzki Szpital Specjalistyczny we Wrocławiu has prepared several proposals. All women, with no age restrictions, will be able to take part in educational workshops. Their aim is to learn proper breast self-examination as early as possible. Participants will gain this knowledge from physiotherapists and volunteers from the La vie La vie oncology foundation. Women aged 50–69 are also invited to a free mammogram.
Autumn is the time when, after sunny days, our skin gets a chance to recover. It is important to spot in time anything that could become an unwelcome memento of holiday travels. A dermatologist from the regional hospital will assess the condition of our skin and, if necessary, refer us for further tests. Everyone examined will receive recommendations regarding further dermatological or oncological check-ups.
A seal for seniors
Thanks to European funding, many day-care homes for seniors have been established in Lower Silesia.
During the EU-funded weekend, two Wrocław facilities—in Brochów and Leśnica—will open their doors to introduce seniors and their families to their services. In addition to useful information about how the care homes operate, interesting workshops are planned. Visitors will meet, among others, Paro the seal. This intelligent robot helps people who feel lonely and also teaches them how to build relationships with other people. A meeting with a municipal police officer also promises to be interesting; the officer will talk about threats to seniors' safety in everyday life, including in urban spaces.
Dzienny Dom Opieki Medycznej w Sokołowsku is also organising a similar offer for people interested in care at a day-care home.
Virtual tours
On the website www.dniotwarte.eu, you will be able to see many EU-funded investments filmed especially for this occasion.
Our region has plenty to boast about: you can look inside the Muzeum Śląskie w Łomnicy to learn about its history and admire its beautiful interiors. You can see what is happening at the “Ewangelik” in Ziębice, a cultural events centre established in a former Protestant church. There will also be touching stories—Akademia Rozwoju w Świdnicy will show how much good can come to foster parents if they are willing to take on this challenge, while a visit to the Zakład Aktywności Zawodowej w Mikoszowie will demonstrate how people with disabilities can be included in social life in an exemplary way.
Film premieres will take place just before DOFE opens. However, the online events will be available for much longer.
