At the courtyard of the Municipal Public Library, a meeting was held with the author of the book titled “The Shelter That Ceased to Exist.” The crime novel was written by Bolesławiec resident Sławek Gortych. Several dozen people attended the novel’s promotion.

The author talked, among other things, about how he wrote the novel and sought to have it published. He also spoke about the second part, which he wrote during the pandemic but which has not yet been published.

Book plot description

Young dentist Maksymilian Rajczakowski travels to the Karkonosze Mountains to escape his family problems, unaware of the secrets slumbering in the mountains’ wartime past. Will he find what he is truly looking for? The owner of the closed Nad Śnieżnymi Kotłami mountain shelter dies in an accident. Shortly after the tragedy, his nephew Maksymilian arrives at the site. The man learns that before his death, for unclear reasons, his uncle had been interested in the fate of another mountain shelter, which burned down under unexplained circumstances shortly after the end of World War II. As more facts come to light, Rajczakowski begins to suspect that his uncle’s death was not an unfortunate accident. Unaware of the danger lurking around him, he begins his own investigation. Soon, he starts receiving threats from someone claiming to be the Mountain Spirit... If he does not solve the mystery in time, he will be in mortal danger. The Shelter That Ceased to Exist opens a series of novels devoted to the Karkonosze Mountains. These are suspenseful crime novels marked by family secrets, as well as a mystery- and legend-filled journey along forgotten paths of the past.
