Update: 2022-08-08
According to preliminary police findings, the 24-year-old cyclist, a resident of our county, failed to obey the STOP sign. Officers are determining why.
The incident occurred on August 7, after 11:20 a.m., at an unguarded railway crossing in Wierzbowa (Gromadka Commune, Bolesławiec County). A train hit the cyclist. The man suffered an injury to his side, with some internal organs outside his body, but he was conscious.
An ambulance was called to the scene. A helicopter was also dispatched immediately. However, the LPR helicopter did not reach the scene because it collided with a bird during the flight, and the crew turned back to base. Medical rescuers quickly arrived at the accident scene and provided the man with assistance.
Firefighters from OSP Wierzbowa:
(…) at 11:30 a.m., we were dispatched to an accident at the railway crossing in our town. At the scene, we found a cyclist who had been hit by a train. We worked with OSP Gromadka, the ambulance crew and the police.
