The Discovery, Imagination and Activity Zone (SOWA) has opened in Bolesławiec. It is located in the Municipal Public Library at 5 Głowackiego Street. This is the first facility of its kind to open in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

The zones are established at cultural institutions that are already operating, such as community centers, libraries and museums. SOWA is an initiative carried out jointly with the Copernicus Science Centre, which
precedes the creation of the announced Small Science Centres.

What does SOWA include?

The Copernicus Science Centre provides each institution with:

  • An exhibition – several engaging exhibits demonstrating the experimental nature of science and enabling visitors to conduct experiments independently.
  • A Makerspace – guidelines for creating the space and kits containing instructions for visitors to complete a task, along with a box of the necessary materials.

The Copernicus Science Centre provides each institution with a package of good practices, including lesson plans used at the Centre, ideas for events, and the opportunity to join one of its programmes. The Copernicus Science Centre also offers institutions support, cooperation and networking. Each zone receives material describing the project and recommended solutions for its operation – the Centre shares its know-how. It provides training for technical staff (technical instructions for operating the exhibits, rules for use, warranties and carrying out any necessary repairs) and educational facilitators.
