In mid-April, information titled “They spat on a student from Ukraine” appeared online on Marcin Marczewski’s website. An anonymous journalist thundered: “Outside Primary School No. 1, young people put on a display of boorishness, intolerance and stupidity.” An anonymous witness’s account was supposed to be evidence of this.

The matter seemed scarcely credible from the outset. The person who allegedly witnessed the event did not react immediately, but waited a day before reporting it. Many people wondered at the time whether anything like this had happened at all, or whether the story had been made up and had not undergone Marczewski’s standard journalistic verification.

Today, it is certain that none of the students of Primary School No. 1 confirmed that such an incident had occurred.

– At the school, conversations were held with all Ukrainian students and their parents. No one noticed the situation described at the bus stop, and no student was harmed. The children who were outside the school waiting for the bus at that time also did not witness any such incident. The fact that the anonymous reporter informed the school and the media one day after the alleged incident raises doubts – says Zenona Słobodzian, headteacher of Primary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec.
