In the interview, President Piotr Roman remembered the late Władysław Bakalarz as a good man who had rendered great service to the county and the city. A family man who cared deeply about his employees and the company.
– It was a great honor to meet such a wonderful man in my life – said Piotr Roman in the interview. – Yesterday’s funeral will go down in history. I have attended many funerals as president and as a private individual; great, honorable people who shaped the history of our city have died. I do not remember so many people attending a funeral. The atmosphere, the absolute silence in which the coffin was carried out. That procession. Even the weather played its part, because when the coffin was being lowered into the grave, it began to rain. It was truly moving. Some people traveled more than 800 kilometers from municipal companies to say goodbye to him. It was not as though they were obliged to come; they could have stayed home and sent a card. I know that the city had been living with this for the past few days. People talked about it in waiting rooms, at hairdressers, at beauty salons and at railway stations. And from what I was told – and I really do speak with people – 99% of them said something completely different from what the haters were writing online. They simply spoke about a good man – the president added.
The issue of hateful comments posted on Marcin Marczewski’s portal under information about Władysław Bakalarz’s sudden collapse and a Mass ordered in his intention by MZGK employees was also raised.
– It is simply a tragedy and a lack of personal culture – said attorney Wojciech Kasprzyk. – I am speechless. We tried to block the haters’ comments together with Director Basiak. Director Basiak called the owner of the portal – I will not say which one, so as not to advertise it. I will never appear there or give him an interview. We asked them to block the comments, because it was simply unacceptable. A person is ill or dying, and nobody moderates this. What answer did we hear? We were told: this is not sponsored content, so we have no influence over it. And nothing came of it. What irritated me most was the caption under the article: “Farewell, my friend.” The man who wrote “farewell, my friend” allowed people to comment in this way. So what kind of friend was he? – the attorney said.
Below are photographs from our archive in which Władysław Bakalarz often appears with his wife, Mariola. Mariola Bakalarz is in serious, terminal condition, which makes everyone even more saddened.
