World Bee Day is celebrated on May 20. On this day, the Krasnoludki group from Municipal Public Kindergarten No. 2 in Bolesławiec expanded their knowledge about bees—the hardest-working insects. The children learned how important these insects’ work is in the process of pollinating plants, which contributes to increased yields of seeds and fruit.
– The preschoolers watched an educational film from which they learned about the usefulness of bees, how honey is made, who a beekeeper is, how to behave when encountering bees, and the habits of these insects. They became familiar with a beekeeper’s outfit, which they were eager to try on – reports Krystyna Gerwatowska, director of Municipal Public Kindergarten No. 2.
She adds: – The “Krasnoludki” watched with fascination the frames from a hive filled with honey. They could smell real beeswax and taste honey. Movement games enriched the activities, and at the end they enthusiastically completed a group art project. The day was full of impressions, and the children were as hardworking as little bees. It was a great opportunity to broaden the preschoolers’ knowledge of nature and ecology.
