The eco-project entitled “Little Explorer’s Experimental Garden ‘DOM’” for children in grades 1–3 and the preventive common room at Primary School No. 4 has been awarded a grant worth PLN 7,000. The money will be used to develop the area next to the school common room. The garden will be a recreational place and a wonderful educational space for contact with nature and learning about the natural world through observation, experience and experimentation.

The 460 m² garden will give children the opportunity to gain practical knowledge and experience the cyclical nature of the natural world, while taking specific actions and observing their impact on nature will help shape attitudes of empathy and responsibility.

The garden, which is to be developed by September 30, 2022, will include, among other things, a vegetable garden and herb garden, where children will plant herbs and vegetables and carry out maintenance work; hedgehog houses; an insect hotel; bird feeders with waterers; a mini greenhouse and a composter; as well as a special place for rest. The students will invite their parents and grandparents to prepare and arrange the garden.

The aim of the “Velvet. Five for Nature” program is to support environmental education in schools, encourage students and teachers to improve their immediate surroundings, and instill in children the belief that every action for nature, even the smallest one, repeated often enough can lead to real change on a larger scale. The program is also intended to develop environmental awareness among the youngest children, which will bear fruit in their everyday habits in the future.
