A 64-year-old resident of Świdnica County was defrauded. According to her account, she found an advertisement on one of the websites offering the opportunity to invest in shares of an oil company and thus quickly multiply her savings. She filled out a form with her telephone number. Some time later, a man called her and informed her that a consultant would contact her, explain the entire procedure and describe how share trading worked.
She did not have to wait long for the alleged consultant’s call. He called the following day and instructed the 64-year-old to deposit 200 dollars into the indicated account, which at the time amounted to PLN 850. The 64-year-old followed the caller’s instructions.
Two days later, the consultant called again, confirmed the transfer and decided that a special application for operating the investment platform was needed on the woman’s mobile device, which he would help her install.
The woman agreed and unknowingly installed software on her device that enabled remote control of the operating system via the Internet. After it was installed, the consultant gained access to what was happening on her phone. The man called again and began convincing her that her money had been working continuously since the first two days and that she was already making a profit. He then instructed her to transfer the money earned as quickly as possible. Despite the 64-year-old’s reluctance to make the transfer, the man persuaded her to log in to her account. The fraudster then gained access to it and began withdrawing money.
The 64-year-old realized that she had fallen victim to fraud, but before she blocked the account, she lost savings totaling nearly PLN 8,000.
Once again, we appeal for caution when carrying out financial transactions.
Let us remember that fraudsters are constantly modifying their methods, whose aim is to extort money. Never, under any circumstances, install programs suggested by strangers on your devices. Do not open links sent to you either. Use common sense and be cautious around strangers.
