The fire broke out on February 24 at around 6:30 p.m. First, the roof of the building caught fire, and then the building itself became engulfed in flames. The charred body of an elderly woman was found inside the building, while one of her sons, who was resuscitated for a long time, did not survive. Two sons—middle-aged men—survived; they were the ones who needed care. Our readers were concerned that they would be left to fend for themselves. Nothing could be further from the truth. During the tragic fire, Mayor Haniszewski arrived at the scene to offer assistance.
On behalf of Mirosław Haniszewski, the mayor of the municipality, Mirosław Haniszewski the municipality secretary, Małgorzata Kwiatkowska, presented us with the actual course of the actions taken in connection with the fire victims:
On the day of the incident, the mayor of the municipality was present at the scene. He agreed with the fire victims that they would spend the following days with their family. This arrangement was confirmed on February 25 at a meeting attended by the head of the Municipal Social Welfare Centre (GOPS) in Warta Bolesławiecka and a crisis-management officer. At the same time, steps were taken to prepare an available social housing unit for the fire victims in Wartowice, as well as financial and material assistance from social welfare funds. On February 28, the affected individuals were handed the social housing unit in Wartowice. Fuel—coal and firewood—was also secured, while the launch of financial support from GOPS funds remains under preparation.
