According to tradition, the tallest Easter palm brings its creators a long and happy life. Last year, the winning palm measured 11.77 meters; this year’s winner measured 17.49 m.
The workshop organized by the Bolesławiec Cultural Center–International Ceramics Center attracted a very large turnout. Despite the rain, nearly one hundred people attended, and each of them returned home with a palm they had made themselves. During the workshop, participants could learn how to make tissue-paper decorations, mainly various kinds of flowers, and how to decorate pussy willow branches or green twigs they had brought with them. Everyone wanted their palm to be one of the most beautiful during the Easter Sunday celebrations.
Ten teams took part in this year’s competition for the Tallest Traditional Bolesławiec Easter Palm. The jury consisted of: Anna Bober-Tubaj, Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, Lesław Kasprzycki and Katarzyna Klepaczek.
The competition committee decided to award three main prizes. As in the previous year, the tallest traditional palm was prepared by members of the “Bolesławiec” Song and Dance Ensemble. Second place went to students of Public Middle School No. 3. In third place was the Association of Parents of Children and Young People in Need of Special Care – Occupational Therapy Workshops in Bolesławiec.
An additional prize funded by the mayor of Bolesławiec went to the “Maryśki” group, namely Marzena Klimczyk and her children. In addition, Technika Biurowa BIS funded a prize for the County Youth Sociotherapy Center in Iwiny. The “Papirus” Bookstore funded prizes for all competition participants.
