Last year, more than 92,000 vaccinations were administered in our county. Most of them took place at centres operated by the Zespół Opieki Zdrowotnej in Bolesławiec. Initially, ZOZ staff administered vaccines in the hall of the I Liceum Ogólnokształcące, but after residents’ interest in vaccinations dropped sharply (in August last year), the centre was moved to the hospital grounds.

The Bolesławiec county hospital currently has one permanent vaccination centre, but at weekends it organised temporary vaccination centres in the municipalities. Vaccination teams also travelled to schools, companies and offices.

The previous year began rather unfortunately as far as the vaccination campaign itself was concerned. Medical staff in Bolesławiec struggled with the availability of COVID-19 vaccines. Things improved afterwards. The greatest interest in vaccinations occurred at the turn of spring and summer (May, June and July). That was when the record was set: 11,000 people vaccinated in a single month. In August, there were considerably fewer people willing to be vaccinated.

Now interest in vaccinations has risen again. The reason? Legal regulations in our western neighbours’ country, as well as the fact that many of our loved ones have contracted this nasty disease.

What this year will bring remains to be seen.
