The aim of the campaign is to continually remind people of the importance of the quality of the air we breathe. It is intended to draw attention to the problem of pollution from low emissions, make residents aware of its scale, and encourage them to replace their boiler and insulate their homes.
Air pollution is very often invisible and therefore disregarded. That is why the Polish Smog Alert decided to make the scale of the problem visible. The installation features a two-metre model of human lungs covered with a semipermeable fabric. Fans force air through them, making the lungs “breathe”. After some time, air pollutants settle on the initially white material.
The device also has built-in sensors that measure PM2.5 and PM10 particulate pollution levels, which are displayed in real time.
Smog is a major problem during the coronavirus pandemic. Numerous scientific studies have shown that high levels of pollution contribute to the more frequent occurrence of COVID-19, as dust particles become transmitters of the virus.
Bolesławiec municipal authorities:
Reducing air pollution and making an effort to decrease low emissions will certainly benefit everyone’s health!
And adds:
The campaign was prepared in cooperation with the Municipal Centre for Environmental Education. Its next stage will be the distribution of educational materials about smog to schools and the organization of a competition for an anti-smog poster.
