On Saturday, February 27, the 5th Puzzle Assembly Marathon “MAUPa” was held in the conference room of the Municipal Cultural and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec, with its registered office in Kruszyn. Eleven teams took part in the competition. Puzzle enthusiasts from Bolesławiec, Kruszyn, Zgorzelec, Węgliniec and Chojnów, as well as... a native Italian woman, entered the contest.
Before the marathon, there was a modern dance performance. Street Soul Dance Crew performed on stage.
Interest in the event was high. There were more applicants than the conference room at the Bolesławiec GOKiS could accommodate (the organisers did not accept the applications of two teams).
While the adults assembled puzzles, children could bounce on balls, ride scooters and surf the internet. What is more, the fifth MAUPa edition was accompanied by a Night at the Library. That day, the GOKiS library was open until midnight.
This year, the marathon participants had to assemble a 1,500-piece puzzle depicting the Roman Colosseum. The Ambassadors of Jamaica team discovered that puzzles require a great deal of patience. The team withdrew from the competition a few minutes after 6:00 p.m.
For the second year in a row, Grupa Pościgowa proved to be the best (the team consisted of: Agnieszka Kołodziej, Bożena Wieczorek, Karolina Wieczorek and Anna Szopińska). It was no coincidence. “We started training as early as October,” says Agnieszka Kołodziej. “Every year, we buy at least 10 boxes. Assembling puzzles teaches you calmness,” she adds. “They help you relax,” adds Bożena Wieczorek. The champions finished assembling the puzzle at 12:33 a.m.
Dream Team came second, with Teresa Mularczyk, Teresa Mularczyk, Weronika Pawlikowska, Edyta Pawlikowska and Brygida Laudani. The women improved on their result (last year they came third). “It was a little easier this time,” admits Brygida Laudani, who has an 18,000-piece puzzle at home. “We all really like puzzles. We often assembled them with our children. But Brygida is the biggest puzzle maniac among us,” Teresa Mularczyk says with a smile.
Obrońcy Tytułu came third (Agnieszka Calów, Aleksandra Forys, Grzegorz Baszczyj and Dagmara Dziewulska), while Może Być Problem came fourth (Alicja Poliwka, Dorota Kecht, Joanna Wiaderna and Małgorzata Sęk).
The event ended before 3:00 a.m. IstotneInformacje.pl was the event’s media patron.
