The “Light a candle for people harmed at the Polish-Belarusian border” action is an expression of solidarity with refugees who are dying in the forests along the Polish-Belarusian border. Taking part in the action shows that Bolesławiec residents are not indifferent to death and suffering.

Bolesławiec Women’s Strike issued a statement.

Dear Sir or Madam, Bolesławiec Women’s Strike would like to address the situation of refugees at the Polish-Belarusian border.

In our opinion, politicians from both countries are gambling with human lives—lives that mean nothing to them compared with the power they are fighting so fiercely to obtain.

In none of our posts or comments do we express a desire to invite refugees to Poland; instead, we appeal for humane conditions to be provided for them until their situation is resolved.

Today’s event at 7:00 p.m. in Bolesławiec’s market square is an expression of solidarity with these people. It shows that Bolesławiec residents are not indifferent to death and suffering. As Polish citizens, we want the people there to receive appropriate medical care, food and shelter from the cold. We must not forget that children and women are living in these inhumane conditions, and their lives are in danger.

We want to know about their situation, which is not a matter of indifference to us, especially since history has taught us that our grandparents and great-grandparents also sought help in other countries.

That is why we invite you today at 7:00 p.m. to support us at Bolesławiec’s market square.
