Iwiny about the late Jan Paździora

In 2012, we wrote the following about the book “Polish Copper 1945–2010”:

[…] it is a valuable addition to the publications already in existence. In the book, he presented the development of the Copper Basin in an encyclopedic manner; its construction in the Bolesławiec and Złotoryja region began from scratch after the Second World War.

“A work has been created that is a treasure trove of knowledge about building a great industrial sector, transforming the region and creating a great copper family,” writes Dr. Eng. Stanisław Siewierski in the introduction.

The author divided the history of Polish copper into three historical periods. The first is the history of the Old Copper Basin, located in the Bolesławiec and Złotoryja counties, whose construction was begun in November 1938 by the German company Berg und Hütten Aktiengesellschaft.

The second period covers the origins of LGOM, the discovery of great Polish copper by engineer Jan Wyżykowski, and the construction of new Mining Plants: Lubin, Polkowice, Rudna and Sieroszowice, as well as new Copper Smelters: Głogów and Cedynia. The third period was the time of transformations in 1991 and the establishment of a one-person company owned by the State Treasury under the name KGHM Polska Miedź S.A.

“Jan Paździora is a passionate expert and a true mine of knowledge about Polish copper. No one else possesses as many source and illustrative documents, or as firmly grounded a knowledge of KGHM’s history. Only he was able to write its complete and accurate history,” Siewierski emphasizes. “I warmly encourage everyone to read it. The book will be an important addition to my private library,” adds the former KGHM president.
