22-year-old Wojciech S. was charged with counterfeiting Polish banknotes—four with a denomination of PLN 10, one with a denomination of PLN 20 and three with a denomination of PLN 50. Wojciech S. was also allegedly putting the counterfeit banknotes into circulation. 28-year-old Łukasz C., who received the counterfeit banknotes from Wojciech S., was in turn charged with putting counterfeit money into circulation. This took place on 21 January at one of the pharmacies in Bolesławiec, where Łukasz C. paid with two counterfeit banknotes with a total value of PLN 30. The 28-year-old was detained by the police on 14 February at one of the shops in Bolesławiec, where he attempted to pay with a counterfeit banknote with a denomination of PLN 50.

Both men were questioned by the prosecutor and admitted to the acts of which they were accused. At the prosecutor’s request, the court remanded both suspects in custody for three months. Wojciech S. faces between 5 and 25 years in prison. Łukasz C. may spend between 1 and 10 years in prison.

Anyone who has any suspicions regarding the authenticity of banknotes that have recently come into their possession should inform the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec or the nearest police unit. Putting counterfeit money into circulation is punishable by law.
