On Sunday, August 29, a seven-member family (three adults and four children, including a 3-month-old infant) went for a walk in Węgliniec. When they were in the park by Freedom Square, it began to rain. They took shelter from the rain under one of the trees. Suddenly, lightning struck the tree under which they were standing. There had been no sound of a storm beforehand...
The force of the lightning strike knocked the people to the ground. The adults suffered, among other injuries, burns to their limbs. Four emergency medical teams and firefighters from Węgliniec and Zgorzelec arrived at the scene. The injured were taken to hospitals in Zgorzelec (a girl with her guardian), Bolesławiec (two children), and the hospital in Lubań.
Storms are passing over Lower Silesian Voivodeship. Please exercise caution.
