On 21 June 2021, the Jelenia Góra Regional Court handed down a verdict sentencing Marek M. to life imprisonment. The man was charged with murder by the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

The crime took place on the night of 16 April 2019. Marek M. entered one of the gaming arcades in Bogatynia and stabbed a 34-year-old man who was there, striking him in the chest area. “The perpetrator then left the scene. Despite the medical assistance provided, the injured man died,” prosecutor Tomasz Czułowski, press spokesperson for the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor’s Office, reports.

He adds:

The perpetrator was arrested that same night and subsequently placed in pre-trial detention. The knife used by the suspect was also found.

The investigation established, among other things, that Marek M. was under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he committed the crime.

In April 2020, the Jelenia Góra Regional Prosecutor’s Office filed an indictment with the Jelenia Góra Regional Court, accusing M. of murder. Investigators stated:

The defendant committed the alleged offense having previously been convicted multiple times of other crimes, including robbery and active assault on police officers, and was therefore liable under recidivism provisions.

The ruling is not final.
