For most participants, it was their first experience sailing on a large yacht and their first stay in Masuria. Six yachts, each carrying several people, set out on the journey. The crew members’ task was to work together under the supervision of skippers—to help carry out maneuvers and all the daily activities important to the crew, from shopping to keeping order.
A distinctive element of the cruise was the combination of scout groups with different specializations. The crews included both those who usually take part in land-based activities and young sailing enthusiasts trained during scout meetings.
We spent most of our time on the water, but there was also enough time to explore Masuria’s land-based attractions: the Wolf’s Lair and other remnants of gigantic structures from World War II. During a field reconnaissance exercise, we learned basic information about Mikołajki, while in Giżycko we explored attractions prepared for sailing tourists. We visited both places with full tourist infrastructure and areas that were almost completely wild.
In just a few weeks, summer camps will begin, where some of the crews will meet again—but we are already planning our next cruise in Masuria.
