Officers of the National Revenue Administration (KAS) in Zgorzelec have once again uncovered the illegal import of waste into the country. “While carrying out inspections on the A4 motorway towards Jędrzychowice, they prevented the illegal import into Poland of 25 tonnes of waste consisting of a mixture of rusty steel scrap, construction debris and plastics. The shipment was coming from Germany,” informs Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS.
She adds:
A permit is required to import such waste, and the Polish recipient did not have one.
The Provincial Inspectorate for Environmental Protection deemed the shipment illegal. The trailer and its cargo were seized for the criminal proceedings.
The driver, who refused to accept a fine, will answer for his actions in court; the carrier faces a total fine of PLN 13,000 in administrative proceedings, while the recipient faces a fine of up to PLN 500,000 in criminal proceedings.
