Last year, PLN 45,000 was collected in Bolesławiec; this year, a record was broken and PLN 49,522.29 flowed into the WOŚP headquarters. In addition, there was foreign currency: US$302.15, €162, £5 and 620 rubles. After converting the currencies according to the NBP exchange rate of January 8, the total comes to PLN 51,137.08. We are the first to provide these detailed figures. On Tuesday, it will be known how much more money comes from the Bolesławiec Allegro auctions.
Everyone at the WOŚP headquarters is tired but very pleased with the collection results. The organizers emphasize the hard work of all the volunteers. “It is essential to write that the volunteers’ dedication was enormous,” says Ewa Ołenicz-Bernacka, who works at the WOŚP bank. “From morning onward, they walked through a snow-covered city and empty streets. They were cold, often had wet shoes, but they did not give up,” Ołenicz adds. “The girls went like a storm. They were more persistent and more resistant to the weather conditions than the boys. There were 600 or 500 złoty in their cans, collected in the city streets. The largest amount, over 1,500 złoty, was collected by Marta Cieśla. This should be strongly emphasized,” Ołenicz urged.
Jana Trawniczek, who conducted the auction as she does every year, told us about the most interesting and funniest auctions. “The helicopter flight over the city fetched the highest price,” Trawniczek recounts. “It sold for 1,200 złoty. A Waterman pen from Jerzy Szmajdziński sold for 320 złoty. A portrait of Jurek Owsiak went for 250. On a roll,” Jana Trawniczek laughs, “I bid on a beautiful bedside lamp with an angel-patterned lampshade, which Mr. Jasiński had brought as a stand decoration. He was not angry with me about it, however,” Trawniczek adds.
The auction of three small kittens was also amusing. It turned out that the woman who took part in it was allergic to cats. She paid for the kitten she won, but gave it to the girl who had competed with her for the animal during the auction. One of the kittens fetched as much as 140 złoty!
“We should mention two children whose gift moved us deeply,” says Ołenicz. “They brought us their own piggy bank. Paulina and Tomek donated all their savings to the Orchestra.
“We must also mention the help provided by the taxi drivers from 910, who transported our volunteers,” says Krzysztof Krzemiński. “I would also like to thank Mateuszowi Makówce in the pages of the IstotneInformacje.pl portal—the person who never asks why or what for when help is needed. He simply helps.
Money flowed into the WOŚP bank throughout the day. Collections took place not only in Bolesławiec. As the head of the headquarters, Bogusław Nowak, informed us, 8,000 złoty was collected in Warta Bolesławiecka.
We congratulate the organizers and present the full list of volunteers who collected money for the Orchestra:
