– During a routine inspection on the A4 motorway, Wrocław KAS officers detained the driver of a van, a Ukrainian citizen. Suspicions of smuggling were confirmed by a mobile X-ray, which revealed a compartment on the roof of the vehicle beneath the tarpaulin, reports Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, press spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS. – It contained 550,000 cigarettes without Polish excise-duty markings, worth more than PLN 411,000.
The vehicle was secured, and the Ukrainian citizen will be held responsible for attempting to smuggle illegal cigarettes. Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek:
In their work, KAS officers use tools that enable them to combat crime quickly and effectively. The mobile X-ray is mainly used to scan cars, containers and railway wagons. Thanks to it, officers are constantly uncovering smugglers’ illegal activities.
