ZOZ Bolesławiec:

The Paediatric Ward is equipped with a modern gastroliser (hydrogen breath test), which quickly, painlessly and non-invasively detects, in the air exhaled by the child, abnormalities indicating lactose, sucrose or fructose intolerance or malabsorption. The test can also reveal other disorders of the small intestine, such as SIBO – a syndrome caused by excessive growth in the small intestine of bacteria characteristic of the large intestine, the main symptom of which is persistent diarrhoea.

How should you respond?

Hospital:

Abnormal test results are consulted with a paediatric gastroenterologist, who recommends further methods of managing the child’s condition. Gastroliser testing is also performed as part of the diagnostic examinations conducted in the Paediatric Ward, which parents concerned about their children’s health may attend.

No referral is required; only telephone registration:
tel. 571 223 476,
on weekdays, between 12:00 and 14:00.

Who can undergo the test?

ZOZ: – Infants and older children can undergo gastroliser testing. The analysis takes approximately two hours, with breaks of several minutes. The test is performed on an empty stomach. The child must not be given any food for 12 hours before the test; they may drink only still water.

How should you prepare for the test?

Facility:

You must also prepare appropriately for the test; all information on this will be provided after contacting the ward by telephone. The doctor must be informed about all medicines taken by the child, especially antibiotic treatment and probiotics, which alter the natural bacterial flora of the intestines and make the child ineligible for the test for four weeks.
