On 28 April 2021, officers of the local County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec attempted to stop a man driving a Renault. Despite the signals given, the driver failed to stop. A pursuit then began. The man fled through the streets of Bolesławiec and then took the regional road towards Jelenia Góra. Throughout the escape, he drove at excessive speed, drove against the flow of traffic, cut off vehicles travelling in the opposite direction, forcing them to leave the road, drove through red lights and pedestrian crossings, and violated other applicable prohibitions and road-traffic rules. He was stopped by the pursuing officers in one of the towns near Bolesławiec.
The driver turned out to be a 22-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County. Krzysztof K. was subject to a court-imposed criminal ban on driving motor vehicles in land traffic, and his driving licence had also been administratively revoked. In addition, a psychotropic substance in the form of methamphetamine was found on him at the time of his arrest.
Moreover, on 2 February and 5 March 2021, Krzysztof K. twice fled from police pursuits initiated after he failed to stop for traffic checks. During one of these incidents, among other things, he attempted to force the pursuing police car off the road.
After being brought before the Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office, Krzysztof K. was charged with causing a risk of a land-traffic disaster, failing to stop for a police check and fleeing, violating a court-imposed ban on driving motor vehicles in land traffic, driving a car without the required authorisation, and possessing a psychotropic substance.
The Bolesławiec District Prosecutor’s Office then submitted an effective application to the local District Court for the suspect to be detained for three months from the date of his arrest.
The offences charged against Krzysztof K. carry a sentence of up to eight years’ imprisonment.
