During routine checks on the A4 motorway, KAS detected two illegal shipments of waste into Poland.

26 tons of sand

– The recipient of the goods indicated in the documents not only was not expecting them, but also did not have the required permit to process waste and was unable to recover or dispose of it in a manner compliant with Community regulations – reports Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS.

She adds:

The Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection deemed the shipment illegal. The trailer with the goods was seized for criminal proceedings. The carrier faces a fine of PLN 13,000, while the recipient may be fined up to PLN 500,000.

12 tons of construction-derived soil

Spokesperson:

The Polish carrier believed that he could transport such a shipment after previously taking a load of sand to Germany. The carrier did not have a transport licence, and his vehicle was not properly marked for transporting waste.

Polish environmental protection services deemed the shipment an illegal movement of waste. The container with the soil was seized for further proceedings. The carrier faces a fine of PLN 36,000, while the recipient of the goods may be fined up to PLN 500,000.
