The tragic incident occurred on March 20 in the evening in Olszyna (Lubań County). The 23-year-old driver of an Opel, who was traveling toward Jelenia Góra at excessive speed, far exceeding the permitted limit, entered a lit pedestrian crossing and struck a man crossing the road. The pedestrian was walking from the left side of the road, as viewed from the driver’s perspective.
The injured man, who had suffered multiple bodily injuries, was transported to hospital, where he died the following day. The perpetrator of the accident was Krzysztof S., a 23-year-old resident of Lubań County. He was detained and brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lubań, where he was charged with intentionally violating road traffic safety rules. This offense carries a sentence of between six months and as many as eight years in prison.

After the procedures involving the suspect were completed, a request was submitted to the District Court in Lubań for his temporary detention for a period of three months from the date of his arrest. The court granted the Prosecutor’s Office’s request.
