On Wednesday, January 27, the Constitutional Tribunal published on its website the written justification for the ruling of October 22, 2020, concerning abortion. Government spokesperson Piotr Müller announced that the ruling would be published in the Journal of Laws later that same day and would enter into force.
The Constitutional Tribunal found one of the three grounds for legal abortion to be unconstitutional. It concerns a provision allowing abortion in the event of a high probability of severe and irreversible fetal impairment or an incurable illness threatening the fetus's life. Now, following the Tribunal's decision, women will be forced to carry and give birth to impaired or stillborn fetuses.
