At the beginning of November last year, we wrote that the City Council had adopted a resolution concerning the local spatial development plan for Popiełuszko Square. We reported that investors were to build a shopping gallery and a swimming pool on the most attractive site in terms of investment potential.
First, a sports and recreational swimming facility will be built. It will include, among other things, a pool hall with a 16x25 m sports pool and a recreational pool, a café, a sauna complex, a massage room, a solarium and a squash court.
All service areas of the facility will be fully accessible to people with disabilities. In addition, an underground car park for nearly 50 vehicles is planned at Popiełuszko Square.
The investment is worth more than PLN 19 million (the Gmina Miejska is seeking funding from EU resources). The contractor is Eiffage Budownictwo Mitex. On Wednesday, 21 October, a press conference was held in the Council Chamber (Bolesławiec Town Hall), during which the design of the new swimming facility was presented.
At the turn of October and November, the company will submit an application for a construction permit. If everything goes according to plan, work will begin at the start of next year. The investment is scheduled for completion in January 2011.
“We architects and municipalities want facilities of this kind to be distinctive, fit well into the city’s architecture and properly fulfil their functions,” Mariusz Szczuraszek said to the IstotneInformacje.pl portal., co-owner of an architectural studio from Ostrów Wielkopolski. “This swimming facility will certainly prove successful.”
“Architecturally, it will be a one-of-a-kind facility; we did not use any ready-made design,” emphasized Adam Zarębski, director of Eiffage Budownictwo Mitex. “It will combine many interesting functions. Everyone will find something for themselves there.”
