According to Zdzisław Abramowicz, a history enthusiast, expert on the history of Bolesławiec and the surrounding area, journalist, and co-author of books about our region, the well discovered in the city center is nothing extraordinary: “There will be more such structures. After all, new housing estates and new houses were once built in Bolesławiec—not only in the old town, but also outside the city walls. People used wells there; there was no water-supply system on such a scale.
In the area where the well was found in July this year, there were once farms, a neighborhood of houses, and even a large brewery.
Zdzisław Abramowicz:
For many people, it is a kind of sensation: something that recalls bygone times. And it is wonderful that people approach it this way.
The expert on the history of our region recalls that some time ago a similar well was discovered behind Mickiewicza Street. The well was partially filled in, and at some point what was inside collapsed.
Let us recall. At the beginning of July, we reported:
On July 2, a more-than-ten-meter-deep well was discovered in central Bolesławiec, near a newly built hotel. It had survived in very good condition.
The well is lined with sandstone and reaches the water table. It was discovered during cleanup work on municipal land at Rev. J. Popiełuszko Square.
The structure was temporarily secured.
