The subject matter of the “In the Maze of Books” project focused on books and libraries. It involved seeking new and appealing ways to promote reading, creatively using modern technology to foster a love of books in young people and develop reading habits in them.

Participants shared their reading interests: they presented their favorite books, exchanged opinions about their favorite characters, and compared and commented on their peers’ choices. On Padlet, they created an extensive database of books they recommended. They encouraged others to read selected titles by creating a variety of promotional materials using information and communication technology tools, including posters, animations, films, reviews and comics.

The students used their imagination and creativity by taking on different roles. Together, they wrote six stories, developed them and published them as e-books and video books. They prepared a traditional and interactive literary board game called “Lekturka” and a multimedia game called “Labyrinth”; they devised literary puzzles for one another and organized book tournaments at their schools. They ran a blog promoting selected books. They eagerly took part in unconventional activities, including building book mazes in libraries, creating colorful reading trees and making book-themed Christmas decorations.

This year’s competition victory is another success for eTwinning projects carried out at Primary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec. Many of them have received the National and European Quality Labels, several have been awarded prizes in the national competition, and the project Is this castle haunted? won first place in the European eTwinning Prizes 2016 competition.

In March 2020, Primary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec received the European eTwinning School Label. The eTwinning School Label is a symbol of recognition for the most active institutions—those where the success of eTwinning projects is driven by a team of committed, creative and innovative teachers.

The aim of the national “Our eTwinning Project” competition—organized each year by the Foundation for the Development of the Education System—is to select and promote the best international projects carried out with the participation of Polish teachers.

eTwinning is a European network for school collaboration. It enables schools to carry out joint activities via the Internet and modern information and communication technology (ICT) tools. The program is intended for schools and preschools and is financed from the budget of the European Commission through the Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency as part of the Erasmus+ program.
