The jury of the Oskar Kolberg Award “For Merits to Folk Culture” selected the winners of this year’s 45th edition in a procedure conducted in accordance with the competition rules. (The distinction, awarded by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, will be presented to outstanding representatives of the traditional culture community during a gala ceremony which, due to the ongoing epidemic, will take place at a later date.)
The award, named after Oskar Kolberg – an ethnographer, folklorist and composer – was established in 1974 and is presented in six categories: individual artistic creativity (visual arts, folk literature, instrumental music, singing and dance), folk bands and ensembles, research and documentation, and the promotion and popularization of folk culture. Honorary distinctions are awarded to institutions and organizations that have made a particular contribution to the development and popularization of Polish folk art and folklore. Among this year’s laureates is Zofia Tarasiewicz from the City of Ceramics – a folk singer and promoter of the heritage of the Czadeckie Highlanders, rituals, visual arts and culinary traditions.
Congratulations!
