Good news for fans of modern dance. Agnieszka Nowak and Jordan Czopko, until recently associated with the Canon group, are planning to create a completely new dance group in Bolesławiec – Street Soul Dance Crew. “There are plenty of people in our county who are fascinated by dance,” Jordan says. “We, in turn, have already reached a certain level of proficiency and have taken part in many competitions. We also participated in workshops led by finalists of the You Can Dance programme. Now we want to inspire others with our passion.”
Agnieszka has been dancing for nine years, Jordan for two. He is self-taught and learned dance routines through YouTube; his mother made her learn to dance. “Except that I really loved it,” Agnieszka says. “Dance is magic. You can’t describe it. You have to dance to feel it.”
In June this year, still as Canon dancers, they led hip-hop new style workshops. They took to their new role brilliantly. So they decided to organise this type of class themselves.
What will they teach young dance enthusiasts? “It will depend primarily on them. We will adapt,” the dancer stresses. “We don’t want to impose any restrictions. We don’t want participants to practise only our choreography. We would like them to contribute their own ideas and try to create something of their own.”
Jordan makes no secret of the hopes he has for SSDC. “We intend to perform with this group as often as possible, so that all of Bolesławiec knows that something is happening; that young people want to dance,” he laughs.
They also plan to organise trips to competitions. Perhaps they may even manage to bring a dance celebrity to Bolesławiec. “It’s a great way to develop your own skills,” Agnieszka assures us. “Sometimes it’s enough to watch how other dancers move. Then you go home with your head full of ideas,” she adds.
Organisational meeting on Wednesday
The classes, addressed to children and young people, will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays at Cezar club (Jezierskiego Street). Agnieszka and Jordan invite everyone interested to an organisational meeting, which will take place on Wednesday, 16 September at 4:00 p.m. at Cezar. “We want to create this group from scratch. Above all, we want to have fun,” says Agnieszka.
