In September last year, we wrote about the case of Krzysztof Kozicki. The boy, the only finalist from among Bolesławiec students in the provincial “zDolny Ślązaczek” competition, did not receive the mayor’s scholarship because... he lived in Kruszyn. Under a resolution of the City Council, the mayor’s awards are granted only to students registered in Bolesławiec. Krzysztof also received no money from the head of the Bolesławiec Rural Municipality. The reason? The scholarship regulations made no mention of children from the municipality who attend city schools.
“We managed to persuade the Municipal Council to change its decision,” Helena Szymula, director of the Municipal School Services Centre, tells us today. “The scholarship regulations now also cover students of municipal lower-secondary schools who live in the Bolesławiec Rural Municipality.”
The head of the municipality’s scholarships are awarded according to the same criteria as the mayor’s awards. Scholarship recipients from the rural municipality will receive the same amounts as their peers from Bolesławiec. “The most important thing is that the students will finally receive this money,” the director adds.
On Tuesday, 8 September, the scholarships were presented in the Council Chamber by, among others, Mayor Piotr Roman and Municipal Head Kazimierz Gawron. Financial assistance is granted to sixth-grade primary school students and third-year lower-secondary school students. Scholarships for outstanding achievements in science, the arts or sport are awarded to winners of international, national, provincial or county competitions.
